Commando Challenge - 26th April 2009

12 apprentices from our Camborne centre are taking part in this years Royal Marines Commando Challenge taking place at Woodbury Common near Exmouth on Sunday 26th April 2009.

The organisers of the annual Royal Marines Commando Challenge launched the new 'Tactical 10k' event earlier this year so that 'non-military' teams could take part in a mixture of running and team based activities to raise money for the Devon Air Ambulance. This year, contestants must do a 4k run; compete in 2k team tests of memory and observation and finally, run the 4k extraction. Activities on the day will include: a casualty evacuation and stretcher carry, a dummy grenade bunker attack, as well as a range of memory and co-ordination tasks.

Mike Lewis, a lecturer at DCET in Camborne said: "The guys have roped me into competing as well. Although it is a bit fun and chance to get some real team bonding done, it is also great to see our students raising money for such a good cause. We are aiming to raise between £500 and £1,000. I am pleased that the students volunteered their time and I am sure the skills gained from the experience, such as team work and communications will be valuable additions to their electrical training and eventual careers".
