17th Edition Wiring Regulations

The new IEE 17th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS7671) were published in January 2008.

Any electrical installation since July 1st 2008 must comply with these regulations. 

The City & Guilds 2382 courses are designed to provide candidates with the knowledge and understanding of the application of the 17th Edition IEE Regulations. DCET Training has an outstanding record of over 98% first time pass rate in these qualifications. 

There are currently two courses available, the full regulation course (City & Guilds 2382-10) or the update course (City & Guilds 2382-20). Both of these courses cover topics including, objective and fundamental principles, definitions, assessments of general characteristics, protection for safety, selection and erection of equipment, inspection & testing, special installations or locations and appendices. 

Which course do I need to take?

If you have achieved any of the following and can produce a certificate as proof then you will need to attain the 17th Edition update qualification (2382-20).

  • City & Guilds certificate in the Requirements for Electrical Installations BS7671:June 2001 (2381)
  • City & Guilds level 3 Certification in Electrotechnical Technology Installation (Building and Structures 2330-07)
  • City & Guilds Level 3 Certificate in Electrotechnical Technology Electrical Maintenance (2330-08)
  • City & Guilds Level 3 Certificate in Electrical Installations Part 2 (2360) from January 2004 onwards only).
  • The 2351 is now acceptable as an entrance exam for the 2382-20 Certificate in the Requirements for Electrical Installations (16th to 17th edition update) only if achieved as part of an Electrotechnical Advanced Apprenticeship completed post 1 January 2004.  

If you have not achieved any of the above or cannot produce the certificate then you will need to attain the full qualification (2382-10).
