Domestic Installer Scheme

Part P, Domestic Installer Scheme

In order for electrical installers to self-certify that their domestic electrical installation work in England and Wales is compliant with Part P of the Building Regulations, they must either be registered with a competent person scheme such as the NICEIC Domestic Installer Scheme or register electrical work with the local Building Control before work starts.

All applicants to the NICEIC Domestic Installer Scheme must meet a number of requirements, in particular be able to demonstrate they have the ability to install, inspect, test and certify their work in accordance with BS 7671, and to comply with the relevant Building Regulations.

Successful completion of the Domestic Installer Scheme Qualification (DISQ) will suitably prepare candidates to undergo site inspection under the NICEIC Domestic Installer Scheme.

How to Comply with Part P

  • Only Carry out non-notifiable works (Very limited)
  • Notify Building Control prior to starting work (Fees may apply)
  • Join an electrical self certification scheme, NICEIC, NAPIT etc (Fee will apply)

If you are not a qualified electrician do you carry out electrical work as part of your daily work? i.e. kitchen fitting or plumbing.
If the answer is no give us a call to discuss.
If the answer is yes you could apply to your chosen scheme provider (fees apply) who will want to see two completed jobs with certificates and they will watch you carry out the tests and verify the results. They will check that you have insurance and a health and safety policy. They may check your qualifications and experience. In most instances additional fees will apply if a re-visit is required.
