City & Guilds 7303 Level 3 Award in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS)
About this course
Any new trainer, assessor or staff member who delivers publicly funded training to one or more learners is required to achieve this award. It would provide the first step towards a full teaching qualification, where required. The award will equip a wide range of teachers and facilitators with what the Sector Skills Council, LLUK, has termed a 'threshold licence to teach'.
Who is this course aimed at?
Anyone who requires or would like an introduction to teaching in the lifelong learning sector, including:
- Trainers in industry
- Teachers and trainers in further adult and community education
- The voluntary sector
- Technicians and support staff
How long will the course take?
You will be required to attend an interview and undertake an inital assessment. Successful applicants will then attend for six days or thirteen evenings of classroom sessions plus a minimum of thirty hours self guided learning.

- Different teaching approaches in your specialist area
- Session planning skills
- The development of inclusive lessons which motivates learners
- Different assessment methods
- The need for record keeping
What books will I need?
A list of suggested reading material will be provided during your induction.
Is there an exam?
No. Assessment is carried out by the completion of theory and practical assignments.
When will I know if I've passed?
Upon successful completion of all assignments your portfolio will be assessed and externally certified by the awarding body.
