The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 are applicable in factories and by extension, other workplaces and provide for specific guarding, wheel and machine markings and speeds.

In addition the regulations require that the correctly selected blade must be properly mounted by a person who has been trained for this purpose and is considered competent by the employer.

Who is this course aimed at?
This course is suitable for any person required to mount an abrasive wheel to a portable machine or to bench / pedestal grinders. There are no pre-requisites for candidates attending this course.

How long will the course take?
This is a half day course.

What topics will it cover?
• Legislation overview to include HASAWA 1974, PUWER, CoSHH and PPE
• Main hazards and risks during use
• The storage and care of abrasive wheels including checks prio to, during and after use
• Wheel markings and types of wheels
• Truing and dressing bench grinder wheels (if applicable)
• Hands on practical in changing wheels

(Important note: This course contains information on the safe use of abrasive wheels. The content covers a practical demonstration on changing the wheel but does not provide actual information on how to use the equipment).

Is there an exam?
Candidates will be assessed on their input during the practical exercise and their feedback.

When will I know if I've passed?
On the day - all successful candidates will receive an SSG Certificate on completion of the course. Course certification lasts three years.

How much will it cost?
£120+VAT per candidate or Special Bundle fee of £105+VAT per candidate when booking 3 or more places.
