AGE Grant Incentive Success
We are pleased to report that 32 of our employers have so far taken up the AGE Grant Incentive which has allowed them to grow their business by employing an apprentice. The £1,500 grant is available to employers who haven't previously employed an apprentice, or at least not in the last 12 months. The grant has been extended to 31st December 2013 so it could help you too - please phone Helen at the office on 01392 829100. Here are some success stories:
'Here at Redrock Electrical Ltd we have used DCET for a number of years. We took on an apprentice last September and the Age Incentive was a big factor when considering whether or not to take on another apprentice as in this economic climate any financial incentive can only be a good one'. Redrock Electrical Ltd, Dawlish.
'We constantly receive requests from potential apprentices looking for placements and unfortunately in this current climate many companies are not prepared to make such a long term commitment to a trainee. The AGE Grant is an excellent additional incentive to employ an apprentice and help provide an opportunity. We have found that by employing apprentices we can mould the trainee into a multi-skilled electrician that suits the needs of our business and this also helps fill the skills gap that our industry suffers from. We have found that working with DCET we end up with an additional staff member that increases our dedicated well-trained workforce. We have employed several apprentices over the last 8 years and we would not use any company other that DCET for our Apprenticeship training schemes'. Jon Stopperton, SSI Electrical, Plymouth.

24+ Advanced Learning Loans
Just a reminder that if you are over the age of 24 and wanting to become an apprentice electrician, or you are an employer looking to take on an apprentice over the age of 24, the part funding that is currently available will only be with us until July 2013. From August 2013 the only government support available will be via a 24+ Advanced Learning Loan which probably isn't good for everyone. Take advantage of the funding whilst it's still available. We are starting another group in April so now is the time to get signed up. Please call us at the office on 01392 829100 for further information.

Plymouth News
DCET have just signed up for a new training centre in PLYMOUTH - watch out for more details next month.

SSE Go-Karting
The much anticipated SSE Go-Karting evening was held at Race World, Exeter on 15th March 2013. With twelve Sparky's raring to go the competition was obviously fierce, fast and furious. The winner was Hadleigh Scott-Kirk from the Plymouth branch who expertly led the way all night. Tom Footitt from the Oxford branch came second, with Kieran Mulcahy taking the third spot on the podium. DCET's charge was led by Simon Ward who came in a respectable fourth and Mike Lewis came in ninth due to the fact that Steve Ward and Damon Brewerton had to leave the track early due to a black flag disqualification. A great night was enjoyed by all and thankfully they will be allowed back.
